Capital City Striders

                  Youth Track and Field

Paul Gilmer needs to know who will be competing in the remaining meets including the AAU National Championships at Eastern Michigan U. and the USATF Junior Olympics at the University of Kansas in Lawrence Kansas.  Most critical this week is knowing who is going to the RBECI in Durham NC. July 20 – 23 http://durhamstriders.com/webroot/files/BluntECI/2017/2017BluntECI.pdf   Entry fee is $8.00 per event.

Paul Gilmer has secured a rate of $69.00 per night plus tax, for our group at Comfort Inn Medical Park, 1816 Hillandale Road, Durham NC 27705, so if you plan to stay he needs to know that immediately. Everyone will need to pay or use a credit card upon arrival. The Stadium is located at Durham City/County Stadium which is about 2 or 3 miles from the hotel.

Dear Friends:

This is our thirty-fifth year of serving the youth of West Virginia. The Striders organization is proud to be

directly involved in the socialization process of over 2950 West Virginia student athletes since 1982.

The Striders organization has been successful in providing positive role models and quality track and field training, while teaching self- discipline, self-esteem, fitness and proper diet. We also focus on mental preparation, goal setting, and continuous academic excellence. Combined with discipline and motivation it is an excellent formula for teaching ones responsibility to be productive citizens of West Virginia. We are working on the traditional Fellowship lunch we have on Saturday every year as a part of the Twenty Seventh Annual Capital City Strider Invitational Meet, in The University of Charleston Stadium at Laidley Field, June 9-10, bringing over 500 visitors to our city over a 2-day period.  We are seeking financial and/or product contributions to help us treat our guest that travel to Charleston to compete.  This year the Striders student athletes are coming off of several phenomenal seasons of track and field while continuing to excel in the classrooms preparing for the academic and athletic success that carries through college. The results and recognition of the program at the Regional and National levels are a tribute to our student athletes and our staff who understand the value of hard work and pursuit of their passions. This includes Strider members doing very well at Middle School and High School Track & Field as well as the number moving on to compete at the college level. We are also asking for funds to support our 2017 program and hope you can help!

Carly Hinkle of the Capital City Striders brings home the gold! The Capital City Striders youth track & field club had six members competing in USA & AAU National Championships in this Olympic year. Carly Hinkle, the first to compete, won the Gold Medal in the Women 17-18 High Jump clearing 5’ 8.75” on her first attempt in Sacramento California Wednesday.  Also competing in Sacramento will be high jumpers Luke Nichols and Shawn Arthur while Striders at the AAU Championships in Houston Texas will be Diane Goodman in 13-14 Pole Vault, Laurel Miller in 17-18 High Jump, and Malcolm Fletcher in 15-16 100m and 200m. All have reached their personal bests in summer competition.  Congratulations to Strider Dianne Goodman earning a fifth place medal in the 14 year old girls pole vault at the AAU National Championships in Houston Texas.

Tristan Slater made the 2016 MileSplit All-American Boys Team which is presented by New Balance. Six athletes from each track and field event are recognized and named to the team each year. Add that to the WV Track and Field Gatorade Player of the Year, Third Place and All-American at New Balance Nationals, and fourth WV State Championship title, and it’s been a pretty great season so far! Tristan proceeds to the Canadian National Championships and World Junior Championships in Poland!  He couldn’t have done any of it without Capital High School and the Capital City Striders. Thanks you guys!

The Capital City Striders  (CCS), located in Charleston, WV,  is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and a club member of the USA Track & Field (USATF) as well as the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) organizations.  These organizations are the national governing bodies of track and field.  As a result of being a member of USATF and AAU, the CCS is a competitive level club.

The intent of the program is to provide proper training for the events of track & field, to engage in competition with other USATF and AAU clubs locally, regionally & nationally, and to have fun.  Athletes also gain valuable educational, social, and travel experiences, while developing confidence and respect for themselves and others.
